Georgians have strong showing at pre-Olympics meet

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Laura Conway of Macon won the women&#39;s 800-meter freestyle on the first day of the Charlotte UltraSwim. <br> <br> Conway, a rising junior at Georgia who is competing for Swim Macon, had a time of 8:45.35 to win the event. <br> <br> Stephanie Carr of Bolles Sharkes in Jacksonville, Florida, finished second with 8:45.97, and Elizabeth Hill of Atlanta&#39;s Dynamo Swim Club was third at 8:46.60. <br> <br> Dynamo&#39;s Elizabeth Durot finsished sixth with a time of 8:51.19. <br> <br> The only other event Thursday was the men&#39;s 1,500-meter freestyle. Olympic hopeful John Cole pulled away from favorite Fran Crippen on the final lap to win it.
