Georgians have strong showing at pre-Olympics meet

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Laura Conway of Macon won the women's 800-meter freestyle on the first day of the Charlotte UltraSwim. <br>

Conway, a rising junior at Georgia who is competing for Swim Macon, had a time of 8:45.35 to win the event. <br>
<br>
Stephanie Carr of Bolles Sharkes in Jacksonville, Florida, finished second with 8:45.97, and Elizabeth Hill of Atlanta's Dynamo Swim Club was third at 8:46.60. <br>
<br>
Dynamo's Elizabeth Durot finsished sixth with a time of 8:51.19. <br>
<br>
The only other event Thursday was the men's 1,500-meter freestyle. Olympic hopeful John Cole pulled away from favorite Fran Crippen on the final lap to win it.
