Eight-year-old boy shot and killed by 5-year-old brother

<p>An 8-year-old boy was shot and killed Monday by his 5-year-old brother who found a handgun in a desk drawer at a southwest Atlanta home they were visiting with their mother.</p><p>Shortly after 10 a.m., the boys were in a room unsupervised, and began playing with a handgun, said Atlanta police Sgt. Kevin Iosty. He said the gun accidentally discharged, striking the older brother, Raekwon Woodard, in the chest.</p><p>Monday night, police arrested Zatar Hunt, 25, and charged him with reckless conduct, involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. An investigation revealed Hunt knowingly left the gun within the reach of minor children, police said.</p><p>Monday afternoon the boys' mother, Chonita Woodard, broke down in tears as she described what happened.</p><p>Woodard said she was in the kitchen as the boys were in a room playing a PlayStation game. She said her youngest son, Judarise, found a gun in a desk drawer and accidently shot his brother.</p><p>After hearing the shot, Woodard said, she ran into the room where the 8-year-old said, "Judarise shot me."</p><p>She told the boy to keep his eyes open. "It's gonna be okay," she said she told him.</p><p>The boy was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.</p><p>Woodard said she did not know there was a gun in the house. "People need to keep their guns up and away from kids," she said.</p><p>She said she was away from her sons only five minutes while in the kitchen.</p><p>The boys were "best buds," she said. "They love each other ... He didn't mean to do it intentionally."</p>
