ABERDEEN, MARYLAND - Tyler Greene had three hits, including a home run, and drove in a career-high five runs to lead Georgia Tech to the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season championship with an 18-6 rout of Maryland on Sunday.
It was the 17th victory in a row for the Jackets who had season highs for runs and hits (22). The streak is the longest in the nation.
The Jackets (38-17, 18-5) completed a three-game sweep of the Terps (21-32, 4-20), which they had to do to secure the conference crown. It enabled Tech to slip ahead of Virginia (18-6 ACC), which had completed its season a weekend earlier.
Tech finished the year with a school record 16 straight wins in the ACC and won its first regular season championship since 2000. The Yellow Jackets also captured the regular season title in 1987, 1993 and 1997.
The offensive outburst also featured Eric Patterson, Steven Blackwood and Micah Owings.
Patterson had three hits, three runs and four RBI, Blackwood had four hits and drove in three and Owings had three hits, including his team-leading 15th homer of the year.
Freshman Lee Hyde (5-2) pitched five innings and allowed three runs, two of which were earned, on four hits while striking out five. He left the game after throwing just 66 pitches in preparation for next week's ACC Tournament.
