Gainesville intersection upgrades begin

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The City of Gainesville has embarked upon an intersection improvement project, with the start of work at Athens Highway and Lenox Drive.

A southbound turn lane is being installed at that location, according to Gainesville Public Works Director Perry Eisenach, who says the work should continue for the next few weeks.

Eisenach says this is the first of six similar projects that will involve adding a new turn lane or extending existing lanes at intersections around town.

Improvements are also planned at Downey Boulevard and Jesse Jewell Parkway, Enota at Park Hill Drive, Pearl Nix Parkway and Brown's Bridge Road, Academy Street and Jewell, and Enota and Thompson Bridge Road.

The projects are expected to cost $433,000.
