Pistons acquire Wallace as part of three-team deal, team says

<p>Rasheed Wallace was traded to the Detroit Pistons from Atlanta in a three-team deal hours before the deadline Thursday afternoon.</p><p>Wallace moves to the Pistons after playing only a single game for Atlanta, which acquired him in a trade from Portland earlier this month.</p><p>As part of Thursdays trade, Detroit sent center Zeljko Rebraca, guard Bob Sura and a first-round draft pick to the Hawks and guards Lindsey Hunter and Chucky Atkins to Boston. The Pistons also picked up guard Mike James from the Celtics, said Joe Dumars, Detroits president of basketball operations.</p><p>Wallace and reserve Wesley Person were sent from Portland to the Hawks on Feb. 9 for Shareef Abdur-Rahim and two other players.</p><p>The former North Carolina standout might be a short-timer for Detroit, which coveted frontcourt help for its upcoming playoff run.</p><p>Detroit had the best record in the Eastern Conference last season but was swept by New Jersey in the conference finals. Under first-year coach Larry Brown, the Pistons have been inconsistent while remaining among the Easts better teams.</p><p>Wallaces salary and turbulent history made him a prime trade candidate this season. Wallace is in the final year of his contract that pays him $17 million this year.</p><p>Wallace is in his eighth season in the NBA, his talent tempered by inconsistency. He gained notoriety during the 2000-01 season, when he was called for an NBA record 41 technical fouls.</p><p>Last season, Wallace and teammate Damon Stoudamire were cited in Washington state on marijuana charges while returning from a game in Seattle against the SuperSonics.</p><p>His troubles continued when the NBA suspended him for seven games for threatening an official on the loading dock of Portlands Rose Garden arena after a game.</p><p>It was the longest suspension ever imposed by the NBA for something that didnt involve physical contact or substance abuse.</p>
