CORNELIA - A city official said Friday plans are falling into place for a Lowe's Home Improvement Store in Cornelia which reportedly would be one of the largest in the company's chain.
Jeff Barron, a city planner, says papers on file with the city show plans for a 164,000+ square-foot store, on a 25.27-acre site, which would create 120 fulltime and 40-50 parttime jobs.
Barron said no building permits have been issued, but a meeting is planned in April between city and company officials to discuss preliminary construction plans.
Barron said according to the company's letter of intent, Lowe's hopes to open the store, to be built on Carpenter's Cove Lane off Historic U.S. 441, next March.
The city council February 3 gave final approval to the annexation and rezoning of the property where the store will be located.
