State senator files open meetings complaint against park conservancy

<p>Georgia's open meeting laws were violated by the nonprofit Piedmont Park Conservancy, a state lawmaker claimed.</p><p>Sen. Vincent Fort, D-Atlanta, has filed a complaint with state Attorney General Thurbert Baker about the conservancy's meeting for board members on Nov. 18 to adopt a new master plan for a 53-acre park expansion.</p><p>The senator was at a protest at the conservancy offices that night along with about 50 others who had wanted to speak out against a proposed 800-car parking deck for the park.</p><p>The conservancy's attorney said the organization is not subject to the open meeting laws, which apply to government agencies and groups receiving public money. The conservancy has private donations to expand the city-owned park.</p><p>The attorney general's office is reviewing the complaint.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x28675ec)</p>
