Students arrested in two school threats

By The Associated Press

Two 16-year-old students at a Hall County high school have been charged with making a bomb threat and threatening the principal by e-mail.

Authorities say the two threats were unrelated.

The first involved a bomb threat that was called to Chestatee High School on Wednesday and resulted in an evacuation that halted classes for 90 minutes.

The student used a cell phone off campus to issue the threat, calling a pay phone in the school cafeteria, said Sgt. Kiley Sargent of the Hall County Sheriff's Uniform Patrol Division.

The sheriff's department, Hall County Fire Services and bomb-detection dogs combed the school before students were allowed to return.

In the second incident, deputies were sent to the school on Thursday to investigate an e-mail received by principal Bill Thompson that threatened violence to faculty members and students.

Sargent said the student sent the message using another student's e-mail account.

Both students, whose names were not released because of their age, were arrested Friday and released to their parents.

Investigators say they believe the students acted alone in both cases.

Both students have been suspended from school pending a tribunal of principals from other schools.

___

HASH(0x2865a00)
