GAINESVILLE - A South Carolina educator has been named the new Headmaster at Lakeview Academy in Gainesville.

Dr. James Curry Robison will assume the position July 1 when H. Ferrell Singleton retires after 27 years at the school.

Darrell Rochester, chair of the Search Committee, said, "We are confident in our decision to hire Dr. Robison. He brings great energy, intellect, and passion to an already dynamic learning environment. Our committee did an extensive national search and we feel certain that Dr. Robison's leadership style will help to take Lakeview Academy to the next level."

Dr. Robison comes to Lakeview from Charleston Collegiate School in Charleston, S.C., where he served as Headmaster since 2000.

A veteran of independent schools, Dr. Robison graduated from The Westminster Schools in Atlanta and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Vanderbilt University. He received his Masters of Art in Teaching from Middle Tennessee State University, and his doctorate from Oklahoma State University. Professionally, Dr. Robison has spent over 20 years in the classroom and has taught students at every level from seventh-graders to college seniors.

His administrative experience has been entirely in independent schools: English Department Chair and Dean of Faculty at Brentwood Academy (Nashville, Tenn.), Upper School Director at Montgomery Academy (Montgomery, Ala.), and Headmaster at Texas Military Institute (San Antonio, Tex.). His published works include stories, articles, and a book, Peter Taylor: A Study of the Short Fiction. Dr. Robison's educational philosophy states that "learning is a wholly personal response that comes from within the individual, and teachers and administrators must do all they can to build a nurturing, challenging nest where scholars can hatch."

"Lakeview Academy is healthy and vibrant," says Jock Hornor, chair of the Lakeview Academy Board of Trustees. "Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Ferrell Singleton, our school is in a position for explosive growth. Ferrell has created a culture at Lakeview that enables each child to develop their potential and become a successful college graduate. We will forever be grateful for his legacy. I am proud of the work done by the search committee and know that Jim will provide sound leadership for Lakeview's future."

Singleton said he is "excited" that Dr. Robison will be joining the Lakeview family, saying Lakeview is a school "ready to take off" and Jim Robison is "the right person at the right time to lead our school to new heights."
