GAINESVILLE - A newly organized committee that will assist in regional transportation planning in Hall County is scheduled to meet for the first time in a few days.
The Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Committee (MPO) meets Friday, January 9 at 8:30 a.m. for a day-long session at the Georgia Mountains Center in Gainesville.
MPOs complete three activities as required by federal law: They develop a 20-year, long-range transportation plan called a Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP); they annually develop a three-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), and annually develop a plan of studies to determine transportation needs called a Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP).
County officials say the January 9 program will educate and inform committee members, elected officials, staff and interested parties on the responsibilities, effectiveness and relationship to other regional agencies of the Gainesville-Hall MPO.
Additional programs during the day include presentations from Georgia Department of Transportation, Georgia Regional Transportation Authority, Atlanta Regional Commission, the Macon-Bibb MPO and a luncheon address from Larry Dent, Deputy Commissioner for Georgia Department of Transportation.
