Hall DA helping push 'equal jury strikes' bill

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - Hall County District Attorney Jason Deal says the district attorneys in Georgia will try again this year to get the state legislature to pass a bill equalizing jury strikes in courtrooms around Georgia.

Deal says the legislation would require that each side get six strikes - compared to the current twelve for the defense and six for the prosecution.

"The reasoning for that is that not only is that the general rule among the...50 states, but also, the victims have just as many rights as the defendants," Deal said.

The bill, a holdover from last year, has been approved by the Senate and waits action by the House.
