Over the last week, I have traveled through several airports, and while I can emphatically say that traveling by air is not as fun as it use to be, it can also be said that it is not that bad, either. I respect the TSA workers I came in contact with and I believe that we are safer in the air.
The bigger question is this: Why aren't we in this together? Individual Americans as well as every person in government (that includes members of congress, too) should be asking everyday, what can I do to help?
On Sunday's Meet the Press, Tim Russert grilled Tom Ridge on Homeland Security. I know that is Tim's job and no one does better, but wasn't Tim the guy who said right after September 11th that even journalists should be supporting this country. Now he was speaking in the context of those who would give moral equivalency to Osama and George Bush, but the point is the same.
Senators and Congressmen took an oath to uphold the Constitution. There are times that party has to be out of the picture and this is one of them. The most important thing that this government does is provide security and we have a way to make sure that we don't go to far, the election process.
We are in one of the most unusual and difficult times of our lives and this is the time to say, "What can I do to help? And then do it!" There is no place for partisanship, it is time to be an American first.
