OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI - Mississippi coach Rod Barnes has received a raise and a one-year contract extension that will carry him through the 2006-07 season.
Barnes' base salary will increase from $107,500 to $150,000 beginning this season, his sixth.
The new deal, which will expire June 30, 2007, must be approved by the state College Board. The approval is a formality.
``My family and I are thankful this administration has shown they believe in what we're doing and how we're getting it done,'' Barnes said Tuesday. ``We enjoy Oxford, and our record since I've been here has proven that we're on solid ground.''
Barnes' base contract represents just a fraction of his total annual package, believed to be worth between $500,000 and $600,000 per season with incentives.
The majority of Barnes' pay comes from a deal with the private Ole Miss Loyalty Foundation.
Barnes, 37, is coming off a season that saw the Rebels finish 14-15 overall and 4-12 in the SEC, the school's first losing record since the 1995-96 season.
Barnes is 100-61 in five seasons at Ole Miss and has guided the Rebels to the postseason in four of his first five seasons.
