Ole Miss' Rod Barnes receives contract extension, raise

OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI - Mississippi coach Rod Barnes has received a raise and a one-year contract extension that will carry him through the 2006-07 season. <br> <br> Barnes&#39; base salary will increase from $107,500 to $150,000 beginning this season, his sixth. <br> <br> The new deal, which will expire June 30, 2007, must be approved by the state College Board. The approval is a formality. <br> <br> ``My family and I are thankful this administration has shown they believe in what we&#39;re doing and how we&#39;re getting it done,&#39;&#39; Barnes said Tuesday. ``We enjoy Oxford, and our record since I&#39;ve been here has proven that we&#39;re on solid ground.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Barnes&#39; base contract represents just a fraction of his total annual package, believed to be worth between $500,000 and $600,000 per season with incentives. <br> <br> The majority of Barnes&#39; pay comes from a deal with the private Ole Miss Loyalty Foundation. <br> <br> Barnes, 37, is coming off a season that saw the Rebels finish 14-15 overall and 4-12 in the SEC, the school&#39;s first losing record since the 1995-96 season. <br> <br> Barnes is 100-61 in five seasons at Ole Miss and has guided the Rebels to the postseason in four of his first five seasons.
