Gators lose three linemen in two days

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA - Three Florida offensive linemen have gone down with injuries in the past two days, spoiling what had been a relatively injury-free start to fall practice.

Right tackle Lance Butler joined the injury list Wednesday evening, suffering a strained groin that will keep him out indefinitely. Butler had been in a dead heat with Randy Hand for the Gators' starting role.

Left tackle Jonathan Colon, who was competing with Tavares Washington for a starting spot, strained the medial collateral ligament of his right knee in a scrimmage Tuesday. It will require surgery, but coach Ron Zook said Wednesday that Colon would be out for about four weeks.

Left guard Anthony Guerrero, the top backup to Shannon Snell at left guard, hurt his right knee in the same scrimmage as Colon and will undergo arthroscopic surgery. He is expected to miss three-to-five weeks.

``You go through cycles, it seems like,'' Zook said. ``We had the defensive guys nicked up last week a little bit, and now its the offense.''

The Gators open their season Aug. 30 at home against San Jose State.
