What Road Are We On?

By by Martha Zoller
The Liberals have finally done it. Big Brother is in every aspect of our lives in every hour of the day. If they can't pass it legislatively, they go to the courts--the supposedly conservative United States Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court ruled last week that the Texas law on sodomy was unconstitutional because it singled out Gays, but Justuce O'Connor carefully tiptoed around the 1987 Georgia case because Georgia did not "discriminate," all sodomy was illegal. Justice O'Connor had voted to uphold the law in Georgia and was not voting to strike down the Texas law.

In Fulton County, Georgia the county commission voted to support domestic partnerships in their policies on providing insurance. While I understand that in the market place as it exists today that this is needed to be competitive in our brainwashed existance.

Where did all this come from? That is an easy answer, the states and federal government have been overstepping their bounds. Laws about sex between consenting adults have no place in governement but the problem is that having these laws on the books and then being upheld or struck down in the courts and inserting this contrived right to privacy that was "discovered" in the Constitution opens the door for the "legalization" of all sorts of deviant behavior. Rick Santorum was crucified for saying that--but it shows the complexity of this situation.

So about now, you are saying, "how does this relate to benefits you get at work?" It is simple, if Big Brother did not take half of your income in taxes of some sort or another--you could buy your own health insurance and the state or your employer would not have to be involved in your family situtation.

And where did that involvement of the state come from? Labor Unions--when the "good war" was being fought and wage and price freezes were in place during WWII--benefits came about to augment income. As a result, your employer has a right to know and judge every intimate detail of your life. I hate that as a straight "white bread and mayonaise" kind of girl. But, if I were Gay and just wanted to be left alone, I'd be saying, "why does anyone need to know what my family situation is?"

To tie all this up, all roads lead to tax reform. As long as the government ties its income to your behavior, we will never be free. Get the government out of your private life and get busy passing the National Sales Tax.
