COLUMBUS - After competing for the title five times - and being named runner-up three times - Andrea Bailey, 24 was finally crowned Miss Georgia Saturday night.
Im just ecstatic, she said after the competition. I thought it was never going to happen.
Bailey was among 10 Miss Georgia finalists who breezed through interviews, swimsuits, evening gowns, song and dance in front of a crowd of more than 1,460 people at the River Center for Performing Arts Center in Columbus.
Kandice Pelletier, the 21-year-old Miss Coastal Georgia was runner-up while Miss Fulton County Kristen White, also 21, rounded out the top three. Miss DeKalb County Brandi Thornton, who ran on platform of maintaining healthy body weight, was eliminated after swimsuit competition.
Ultimately, the interviews decided who would walk away with $20,000 in scholarships and awards.
Bailey, who graduated from Georgia State University, ran on a platform that encouraged more diversity within the American Red Cross to reflect the community in which it serves.
For the talent competition, she sang "The Prayer".
Bailey replaces Miss Georgia 2002, Amy Mulkey of Gainesville.
