Arrest warrant withdrawn for ex-Georgia player charged in gun incident

BATON ROUGE - An arrest warrant for former Georgia basketball player Tony Cole was withdrawn Friday after he apologized for not showing up at a hearing on a misdemeanor assault charge. <br> <br> Cole went to state court in Baton Rouge and was given a new hearing date in May. His lawyer says Cole did not show up yesterday because he had not been told about the hearing. <br> <br> Cole is accused of brandishing an Uzi on January 14th at the home of a former girlfriend, then threatening to open fire when she refused to let him in. A prosecutor says the weapon was not fired and no one was injured. <br> <br> Cole has been at the center of a scandal involving claims that Georgia coaches and a booster violated N-C-A-A rules by giving Cole money and goods, along with a passing grade in a class that Cole never attended. <br> <br> The case resulted in the suspension of Georgia coach Jim Harrick and the firing of his son, assistant coach Jim Harrick Junior. <br> <br> Cole was kicked off the Bulldogs last year after being charged in a sexual assault. Those charges were later dropped.
