BAINBRIDGE - Boaters hate the Asian hydrilla weed that clogs propellers on Lake Seminole, but bass anglers say the dense mat of weeds concentrates the fish and makes them easier to catch.
That makes Lake Seminole -- a 37,500-acre lake on the Florida line in southwest Georgia -- a popular spot for fishing tournaments, including the Bassmaster Tour, the nation's most prestigious competitive fishing tour.
This week, 175 professional and 175 amateur competitors will converge on Lake Seminole for the third stop of the Bassmaster tour this season. They will compete for a top prize of $100,000.
Registration begins Wednesday.
Competitors are judged by the weight of their catches. The field will be pared down to 12 by Saturday, and only six will be left for the final round on Sunday.
The tour will culminate in August in the $200,000 Bassmaster Classic in New Orleans.
