ST. MARYS - St. Marys City Hall has been flooded with calls from people who have received water bills that doubled the monthly charge.
City Manager Bill Lewis blames a computer glitch, causing the bills to show a ``past due'' amount equal to the current balance owed.
The first angry customers started calling Tuesday. City officials say phones have been ringing continuously since, as employees have taken nearly 1,500 calls.
They say only about 100 of the nearly 6,000 water customers in the coastal town on the Florida state line had past-due balances.
The city has posted signs in city buildings and sent public service announcements to area radio stations. City employees are also telling customers who try to pay the higher amount about the error.
