AUGUSTA - The Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, headed by Jesse Jackson, has requested an application for a permit to demonstrate at the Masters Tournament in April.
Jackson's group has indicated it will protest in support of Martha Burk, the chairwoman of the National Council of Women's Organizations who is leading the fight against the Augusta National Golf Club's all-male membership.
Colonel Gary Powell of the Augusta-Richmond County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday that he received requests Tuesday for applications from Jackson's group and from an unidentified man from Maine who supports Augusta National. Powell said he would e-mail applications Wednesday to both parties. They must be signed at the sheriff's department or in the presence of a notary public.
Burk said Wednesday she will send someone from her organization to Augusta to seek a permit to demonstrate no later than next week.
