Protest permit applications requested for Masters Tournament

AUGUSTA - The Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, headed by Jesse Jackson, has requested an application for a permit to demonstrate at the Masters Tournament in April.<br> <br> Jackson&#39;s group has indicated it will protest in support of Martha Burk, the chairwoman of the National Council of Women&#39;s Organizations who is leading the fight against the Augusta National Golf Club&#39;s all-male membership.<br> <br> Colonel Gary Powell of the Augusta-Richmond County Sheriff&#39;s Department said Wednesday that he received requests Tuesday for applications from Jackson&#39;s group and from an unidentified man from Maine who supports Augusta National. Powell said he would e-mail applications Wednesday to both parties. They must be signed at the sheriff&#39;s department or in the presence of a notary public.<br> <br> Burk said Wednesday she will send someone from her organization to Augusta to seek a permit to demonstrate no later than next week.
