Jury hands Buttram life sentence

<p>A jury has handed a Paulding County man a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the 1999 double homicide of his pregnant ex-girlfriend and her mother.</p><p>Its a fair verdict, said Cobb County District Attorney Pat Head, who sought the death penalty against 34-year-old Michael Willard Buttram.</p><p>Buttrams attorney, Marc Cella, plans to appeal the decision and file a motion for a new trial.</p><p>Buttram was found guilty on Thursday of murder in the shooting deaths of Tara Cantrell, 19, and her mother, Mildred Cantrell, at their Mableton home four years ago. He also was convicted of burglary for taking Cantrells car and received a 20-year sentence to run concurrent with the life sentence.</p><p>Information from: Marietta Daily Journal</p>
