Gym puts on sanctioned boxing event

<p>A local boxing club will host its first major boxing event Saturday in Macon.</p><p>The club now has about 40 boxers and it will host the Middle Georgia First Annual Amateur Boxing Jamboree, which will including boxers from across the state. It will be sanctioned by USA Boxing.</p><p>This is one of my dreams, said co-organizer the Rev. Frank Ray. To have something for our young peoples, which have never had the opportunity to participate in an event like this.</p><p>The Bay Street gym was formed by a group of dedicated boxers who spent more than a year converting an abandoned, wood-paneled office into their boxing club. They knocked down walls, scraped together money for globs and cheered at ringside at bouts far from home.</p><p>Officials expect to hold between 12 and 25 bouts Saturday.</p><p>It will cost about $1,300 to stage the event, including the cost of food, trophies, doctors and boxing officials.</p><p>Information from: The Macon Telegraph</p>
