McEver School's 30 seconds of 'fame'

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - McEver Elementary School's "15 minutes of fame" really lasted about 30 seconds Sunday during CBS-TV's NFL Today.

The school was featured during a Staples commercial about 20 minutes into the one-hour noontime pre-game show.

The school was randomly selected from those in the Atlanta Falcons region after Falcons head coach Dan Reeves was selected Staples' Coach of the Week.

Each week, Staples choses a school in the winning coach's area and that school is awarded a $5,000 Staples gift certificate and a visit from the winning coach. A video crew was at McEver Friday to tape the segment.

It featured a picture of the school marquee and shots taken inside the school with students sitting in a cluster around a staff member who thanked Staples and let out a Falcons cheer. The students then cheered and waved what looked like homemade Falcons' and Staples' signs.

A Hall County School System spokesman said last week he wasn't sure when Reeves would visit McEver.
