Four hour Jackson County standoff ends with arrest

By by Ken Stanford
JEFFERSON - Jefferson police say a man with a shotgun held officers at bay for four hours Sunday before surrendering Sunday night.

Jefferson Police Chief Darren Glenn says David Beck was armed with a 12-gauge shotgun and threatened to shoot anyone who came too close to a wooded area about three miles south of Interstate 85.

Glenn says Beck fired the shotgun in the air during the standoff.

He says charges on Beck are expected to be finalized today.

Police had to route traffic away from the standoff area.
