GAINESVILLE - AIDS awareness and issues will take center stage at the Chattahoochee Country Club in Gainesville this week at a gala to benefit the North Georgia AIDS Alliance.
Keynote speaker will be Robin Hale of Gainesville, a professional actor who has AIDS. Hale is directing a Gainesville Theatre Alliance production of "The Laramie Project" this week at Gainesville College. That play is based on the murder of a gay University of Wyoming student five years ago.
The Alliance bills itself as the only organization in a 13-county northeast Georgia region dedicated solely to HIV/AIDS issues and officials say it has provided about $5,000 in services to clients this year, including support group expenses and assistance with rent, utilities, medical needs.
