Powerline meeting in Gainesville Thursday

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Civic Center will be the scene Thursday night for another meeting dealing with controversial plans for a Lula-to-Dahlonega high transmission powerline.

Unlike the others, which were held in Murrayville, and hosted by opponents of the powerline, Thrusday's meeting will be hosted by Georgia Power, the utlity planning the line.

The session will begin at 5:00 and is scheduled to last three hours.

In recent weeks, opponents of the powerline have been meeting to map their strategy. They have also attended public hearings in Atlanta at which state lawmakers have been considering requests to limit the power of utilities in Georgia to condemn property.
