GAINESVILLE - There was a sharp decline in the number of new, single-family houses okayed for the city of Gainesville last month - but just the opposite for unincoporated Hall County.
The number of permits granted for such construction in the city declined from 15 to two in September, according to Gainesville/Hall County Building Inspection Services.
In the county, the number rose from 82 in August to 131.
The 186 new homes are expected to cost $18.6 million.
