GAINESVILLE - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County recently hosted the "I Can Achieve" Academic Pledge Rally" sponsored by the JCPenney Afterschool Fund.

It was one of more than 200 held Boys & Girls Clubs across the country and was made possible by a $1,000 grant from the JCPenney Afterschool Fund.

The purpose rallies was to encourage youngsters ages 6-15 to make a pledge to improve their academic performance for the upcoming school year.

"We believe it's very important to call attention to such an important initiative," said, Ian Adair, Director of Operations of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County. "We know from research and firsthand experience that without support many of our members may accept lower standards of academic achievement, which lower their aspirations for higher education. Low achievement in school generally leads to unrealized potential, locking youngsters into limited options for employment and life in general."

The "I Can Achieve" Academic Pledge Rally was held at the JCPenney at Lakeshore Colonial Mall. "We want every young person in our community to succeed, and that's why we're thrilled to sponsor this pledge rally," said, Dale Powell, Store Manager.
