Habersham Co. officials warn of vendor scam in the area

By Will Daughtry News Reporter

Habersham County officials are warning of a recent scam in the area.

The county reports that a Facebook post was made to get the public to sign up to be vendors at a craft fair at the Habersham County Fairgrounds.

The post was made in the “TOCCOA, GA” public group on Facebook on April 11 and is still up at the time of this article.

The alleged scammer told people in the post that the fair would be May 3 through May 4 and May 17 through May 18 of this year.

Habersham County officials said they do not have any event of that type booked at the fairgrounds on those dates.

“This is a fraudulent post; we have taken the steps and reported the post and the account. We have also reached out to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office,” county officials said in a statement.

Habersham County urges residents to call and check with the Recreation Department about an event before sending anyone money.

Their phone number is (706) 839-0234 and their website is linked here.

They also added that they do not take payments through accounts like Venmo for any event.
