ATLANTA - A Decatur man arrested and charged with the sexual assault of two female students at a Georgia State University dormitory may be suspected in a similar attack at a Carrollton college.
Ruben Fortune, 23, was charged with two counts of aggravated sodomy and five counts of kidnapping, authorities said Tuesday.
Five women, three of them residents, were in a Georgia State dormitory suite Dec. 2 when a man, armed with a knife, knocked on the door.
One student opened the door and the intruder forced his way in, police said. He tied up three women with a phone cord and sexually assaulted the other two, both freshmen, before running down a nearby stairway, said Georgia State police Maj. Carlton Mullis.
The Dec. 2 attack at Georgia State was similar to one that happened at the State University of West Georgia in April, said Tom Mackel, who works for campus police there.
Mackel said the suspect also looked similar to the suspect described in the attack at West Georgia.
Fortune was arrested Monday night. The suspect is not a student at the school, Mullis said.
Police said that they matched DNA evidence from Chap Stick left in the dorm to a 1999 sexual assault.
Fortune also was arrested on child molestation charges in May.
