Chancellor pleads for more money for Georgia public universities

ATLANTA - The chancellor of Georgia&#39;s public colleges said sending tax dollars to higher education is the best way to improve the economy. <br> <br> Chancellor Thomas Meredith urged lawmakers not to cut more money from the university system in his first State of University System address Wednesday. <br> <br> Falling tax revenues prompted the state to cut $184 million - or more than ten percent - from the university system this fiscal year. <br> <br> Governor-elect Sonny Perdue has warned the fiscal outlook may not improve right away. The state&#39;s universities are bracing for further cuts when the legislative session begins Monday.
