HEPHZIBAH - A middle school teacher and his wife, who taught kindergarten, were arrested on drug charges after a deputy found marijuana and cocaine at their home while responding to a burglar alarm, authorities said.
James and Rosly McIntyre, both 49, were not at home when the deputy arrived late Tuesday. The deputy found a back door kicked in and began to look for intruders, said Sgt. Allan Rollins of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
Inside, he found cocaine and marijuana underneath the couple's bed, Rollins said. Investigator Brian Vallee said officers confiscated 233 grams of marijuana and 1.5 grams of powder cocaine. Also found were scales, rolling papers, and hundreds of plastic bags.
``There were bags in the closet, underneath the bed and in the bathroom,'' Vallee said. ``There were well over a hundred bags with residue in them.''
McIntyre, a chorus teacher at Murphey Middle School, and his wife, who taught at Bel Air Elementary School, were charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and cocaine. They remained jailed Wednesday night in lieu of $13,550 bonds.
Officers also seized a .38-caliber pistol found in the home, Vallee said.
