Grocery store owner shoots robbery suspects; one dead

By
DECATUR - No charges are planned against a 74-year-old convenience store owner in DeKalb County who shot and killed one robber and wounded another.

The shooting happened about 10:45 p.m. Thursday at the Pac-A-Sac in Decatur. The owner -- J.C. Adams -- says he was in the back office when he saw two men and a woman enter the store he has owned for more than 20 years with guns.

Adams -- who uses a walker -- says he got his shotgun and confronted them -- hitting two of the suspects with one shot.

Police have not released the name of the man killed. They identify the wounded man as 19-year-old Leonard Glover of Clarkson. The woman is identified as 17-year-old Tammy Crystal Jones, also of Clarkston.

It's the second time in less than three years that Adams has defended himself against robbers. In May 2000, another would be-robber -- 32-year-old Leroy Holt of Decatur -- was killed by a shot in the chest from Adams when he and an accomplice tried to hold up the store. Adams was wounded during that robbery attempt.
