ATLANTA - Atlanta Beat defender Dayna Smith announced her retirement Thursday from the WUSA team. <br>

Smith was the only player to take part in all 23 games during Atlanta's inaugural season in 2001, when the Beat reached the championship game. She played only five games last season. <br>

The 28-year-old Smith has a sales position with GE Consumer Products, based in Los Angeles.
