LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County officials are moving forward on building a memorial that has been nearly ten years in the making.
The County Commission is expected to award bids for the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial, which will honor residents who died in the country's wars as well as public safety men and women who died in the line of duty.

The county hosted a groundbreaking last Memorial Day outside the Justice and Administration Center, but no other dirt has been moved.
If approved, construction could soon begin on the site and the engraved elements of the memorial could be installed.
Retired firefighter Ron Buice and his wife Carolyn have spent five years raising money for the structure, which includes more than a dozen granite pillars.
