WASHINGTON - While Saxby Chambliss appreciates the Senate's reputation as the world's most deliberative body, he'd be thankful for a little less deliberation in the office selection process.
Chambliss was annoyed and amused when told he and his staff would have to operate out of a mobile home in the courtyard of a Senate office building until it's his turn to choose more permanent quarters, probably sometime in April.
Seniority rules, and Chambliss officially ranks 91st of 100 senators. Still, the former House member is puzzled by this game of musical offices and its sluggish pace.
Chambliss' temporary quarters are relatively elegant, if a bit cramped. His aides brought in a hammer and nails to hang pictures, and an abundance of windows brighten the office throughout.
Chambliss jokes it's natural to work out of mobile homes, which are produced by the thousand in the south Georgia district he represented as a congressman.
