LAWRENCEVILLE - A piece of ice 2 feet wide fell from the sky, crashed through a family's roof and landed in the room of two sisters.
No one was injured when the mysterious beachball-sized ice block struck at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
The sound was ``like a door was slammed, but 20 times louder,'' said Joey Woodard, 14. ``I looked around and wondered if a car hit the house.''
The ball of ice may have fallen from a passing airplane, homeowner Christine Woodard said she was told by the Federal Aviation Administration. Officials with the FAA said they are investigating.
``We've heard of cases happening before, but it is very rare,'' FAA spokesman Christopher White said. ``A lot depends on the prevailing winds.''
Rachel Smith, 23, who shares the room with her 6-year-old half-sister Barbara on weekends, spent the night at a relative's home Friday night. Barbara Woodard wasn't in the bedroom Saturday morning.
