More than 500 Georgia soldiers and National Guard deployed

More than 500 Georgia soldiers are being deployed in two units from Fort Gordon and the Georgia National Guard. <br>

About 400 soldiers from Fort Gordon's 63rd Signal Battalion in Augusta have been ordered to deploy to the Middle East. <br>
<br>
Their mission is to support deployed troops through the installation, operation and maintenance of radios, cell phones and computers. <br>
<br>
Officials have not released the number of soldiers to be deployed and their exact location. No date has been scheduled yet for their departure. <br>
<br>
More than 100 members of the 148th Medical Company of the Georgia National Guard are also being deployed for one year to Fort Hood, Texas. They're leaving Friday. <br>
<br>
The unit flies the UH-1 Huey helicopter and will be responsible for providing air ambulance services.
