ATLANTA - A bill requiring 24-hour waiting periods for abortions has been introduced Tuesday in the Georgia House, but its Republican sponsor has dim hopes of it ever coming to a vote.
House Democrats - who still control the chamber - say the waiting period is a thinly veiled attempt to curb abortions.
The bill - introduced by Republican Representative Len Walker of Loganville - would require waiting periods for abortions. Women would have time to receive warnings that abortion carries some health risks.
Women also would be given a list of adoption agencies, a picture of a fetus at her stage in pregnancy and a talk about the psychological effects of abortion.
