Sparta man arrested in brother's death

SPARTA - Police have arrested a man accused of fatally stabbing his brother with a butcher knife at their Sparta residence. <br> <br> Investigators said Glenn Grier, 29, stabbed his brother Joey Grier, 25, in the chest three times early Saturday. The brothers were hosting a small party when the incident occurred. <br> <br> Police are not sure what caused the argument between the brothers. <br> <br> ``It&#39;s very evident he was responsible for stabbing his brother, but you want to make sure it wasn&#39;t self-defense,&#39;&#39; said R. Allen Haywood, a spokesman for the Hancock County sheriff. ``He was very distraught about what happened.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Investigators also believe alcohol played a role in the incident. <br> <br> Joey Grier died about 1 a.m. Saturday at Oconee Regional Medical Center in Milledgeville. Glenn Grier was treated for head injuries at the same hospital. Glenn Grier was beaten by witnesses to make him stop attacking his brother, Haywood said. <br> <br> The incident marks the first homicide of the year in Hancock County, Haywood said. The county had four homicides last year.
