Flight 880 took off from Atlanta without incident but well into the flight turned around to land at Knoxville. Emergency vehicles greeted the plane, which landed without incident, and it taxied to the terminal under its own power.
After a short wait in Knoxville, passengers were placed on another aircraft for the short flight to Lexington.
Many of the passengers, including Rogers, R-Ky., passed the time in the Knoxville terminal watching the Kentucky-Louisville football game, which began about the time their flight was originally scheduled to land in Lexington.
