Sailor pleads guilty to child sex charges

WOODBINE - A sailor at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base has pleaded guilty to 12 counts of child molestation and one count of sodomy. <br> <br> Petty Officer First Class Elloy Torrez Gutierrez entered the plea last week without bargaining for leniency from the court. <br> <br> According to naval investigators, 12 of the alleged sexual assaults occurred at Gutierrez&#39;s home in Kingsland. The victims, both male and female, were between 7 and 15 years old. <br> <br> Another incident occurred at Bangor Naval Submarine Base in Kitsap County, Washington, where he was stationed before being assigned to Kings Bay in 1997. <br> <br> Each molestation and sodomy count has a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. <br> <br> Investigators said the 36-year-old Gutierrez used his position as a tutor, assistant basketball coach for a Kings Bay youth league and a volunteer Scout leader to befriend the children he invited to his home.
