ATLANTA - Terrence and Nketia Martin came home from spending a Labor Day with relatives to find their house had been firebombed.

A brick and a Molotov cocktail were thrown into the baby's bedroom, and the blaze destroyed the family's home.

Authorities have not made any arrests but the Martins said police could have saved their two-story house. They called police Friday with the name and license plate number of the person they think did it.

``I am in shock by this. What kind of people would firebomb my children's bedroom? They knew that was my children's room,'' Nketia Martin said.

The Martins said they have been calling police for years about drug dealers and prostitutes in the East Lake neighborhood of about 1,000 homes.

Recently, when police hauled off three neighbors, a rail-thin woman in a passing car yelled: ``We're going to get you,'' Martin said.

When she saw the woman again Friday, Martin called police but didn't get a response. She said she had seen the woman before at the neighbor's house.

DeKalb police didn't return phone calls seeking comment Wednesday.

Some residents blame inefficient policing just outside the city of Atlanta's border for holding their neighborhood back.

But that won't stop them from calling 911 again, Martin said.

The Martins plan to rebuild the home, which has been in their family for three generations.

``If we don't do anything about it, no one will,'' Martin said. ``We can't let people run us out of the neighborhood because they're doing wrong.''
The DeKalb County neighborhood has undergone a rebirth of sorts, with a restored golf course, charter school and several renovation and construction projects for homes in the area.
