KENNESAW - Dwaine Wilson, police chief in this suburb of Atlanta for 17 years, was fired for allegedly lying about a $200 personal purchase he made with a city credit card.
``While the city of Kennesaw is saddened by the circumstances of the termination, the city insists on the highest standard of ethical conduct of its employees, especially members of its law enforcement community,'' City Manager Mike McDowell said.
McDowell said Wilson was suspended without pay on Aug. 5 before being let go Wednesday night. Investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Wilson ``attempted to cover up his action by submitting a city expense voucher which stated that the purchase was for city use,'' McDowell said.
Tim Callahan has been named acting chief of the city's 45-officer force, McDowell said.
The item Wilson allegedly bought was not identified. He couldn't be reached for comment.
