Man tries to rob store with cooler on his head

AUGUSTA - An alleged would-be thief who tried to use a plastic foam cooler to conceal his identity was arrested Friday shortly after the incident at a convenience store. <br> <br> Michael Steven Pavlich, 48, of Martinez, was charged with attempted armed robbery after authorities said he tried to rob a Circle K about 8:30 a.m. <br> <br> Deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff&#39;s Office said Pavlich entered the store, grabbed the cooler, punched a hole in it so he could see and put it over his head. <br> <br> A clerk told police she couldn&#39;t understand what Pavlich was saying, but a witness said he overheard Pavlich say, ``Everybody get your hands up.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> The deputies&#39; report said the witness took away a pellet pistol from Pavlich, who then fled the store and got into a white Honda with a woman driver. The witness and clerk took down the license plate number and description of the vehicle. The car was stopped a few miles from the store. <br> <br> The driver wasn&#39;t arrested after police ascertained she didn&#39;t know her passenger had tried to rob the store, said Maj. Ken Autrey of the sheriff&#39;s department.
