KENNESAW - Dwaine Wilson, who was fired as police chief of this Atlanta suburb for allegedly lying about a personal purchase made with a city credit card, filed a request Friday for a court hearing about the dismissal.
A 25-year veteran of the police force, Wilson admitted to using the credit card to spend $209 for a part for his son's car, said his attorney, Ted Herbert. But Herbert said the receipt for the part mistakenly got filed with the city.
``It was an honest mistake,'' Herbert said. ``But Chief Wilson certainly had no intention of defrauding the city which he has faithfully served for 25 years without a blemish.''
City officials never gave Wilson a chance to explain the error, Herbert said. City Manager Mike McDonnell declined comment.
