Former Thomasville teacher sentenced in student sex case

THOMASVILLE - A former middle school teacher has been sentenced to a year in prison, ten years probation and a $2,500 fine after she pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault and molestation of a student. <br> <br> 30-year-old Amy E. Drew also was ordered to perform 200 hours of community service and to receive mental counseling as part of the sentence. <br> <br> Drew was arrested in June after being accused of the incident with a 13-year-old student in a closet of her classroom at Central Middle School. She had been free on $15,000 bail. <br> <br> Altman also ordered Drew to surrender her teaching license and to stay away from people younger than 18. <br> <br> If Drew completes her sentences successfully, her conviction can be voided under the state&#39;s first offender law.
